Homemade Oreos

February 14, 2010

I recently stumbled across an article on chowhound.com that described chocolate-covered oreos as “Crack-Coated Crack.” Unbelieveably enough, I know of something far more delicious than chocolate covered oreos. That is, HOMEMADE oreos. HELL YES. This chewy, chocolate-y version of the cookie part of the sandwich makes the packaged version taste, well, a bit like vaguely chocolately styrofoam. But the cream is spot on. And one very large benefit of making your own oreos is that you can double the recipe for cream so all of them are DOUBLE STUFFED.

Oh, and another benefit about making your own oreos is that instead of measuring out each ball of cookie dough in teaspoon sized scoops like the recipe says, you can use a tablespoon so you get GINORMOUS DOUBLE STUFFED OREOS (Excess, much?)

The part about supersizing actually happened by accident. Because some people named Elizabeth don’t always read the recipes carefully and confuse tsp with tbsp. And because of this some people make a mistake. A DELICIOUS MISTAKE. See, not all your baking mistakes end in disaster. Sometimes, they end in bliss!
